Hitchcock at Gärdet

"The Birds" is one of my favourite films. When I was out walking today, the following birdsy imagery presented itself to me:

Two very different but good films!

This week I have been watching some films that will compete in different categories at Stockholm Filmfestival (starting next week). At first I saw Heartbeat (les amours imaginaires) a youthful film about two friends falling in distant but overwhelming love with a god-like-looking adonis without much apparent depth or intelligence. The film, framed with an energetic soundtrack and open-minded editing, gives a realistic insight into the power that people who captures our hearts and vanity can possess.

The other film I watched in the beautiful, old Skandia-cinema in Stockholm was Winter´s bone. It won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance this year. The main character, 17 year—old Ree Dolly is carrying the plot forward in the search for her father and for the survival of her family. The actress Jennifer Lawrence´s interpretation of Ree is captivating and gripping from the first instant. The film contains a lot of  gloom and mid-west misery, but is still made with compassion and warmth not at least thanks to the humane Ree Dolly character!

Last dance in Öland

Harry`s in Borgholm, 30th October. Was I really on Öland? It could just as well have been the mid-west in America. After watching K-special about the american desert http://svtplay.se/v/2192679/k_special/test_site_-_amerikansk_okenkultur?cb,a1364145,1,f,-1/pb,a1364142,1,f,-1/pl,v,,2192679/sb,p102870,1,f,-1 I find similar functions for this special isle.

Two new songs! and piano-lesson

I have started to write two new songs: for a long time I have been focusing on working on old material, but  the last couple of days couldnt stop the new songs from taking shape. Maybe it has to do with another lesson in jazz-piano that I took: becoming mathematical with music is fun and puts my brain in new directions! I have also, together with Helle and John decided on a öland release date for the Ep in Yellow box: http://www.hellekvamme.se/news.html  : 26th March! this puts my life into wonderful order.
Meanwhile, the new song by Lykke li is growing on me:

And then...Malmö

I get to travel in Sweden quite a bit and its like seeing it for the first time. I was invited to the premiere of my sisters shortfilm "Blodssystrar" at Doc Lounge, Malmö. From Saturday the 16th you can watch it here http://svtplay.se/v/2144484/kvinnan_i_mitt_liv/blodssystrar . It was a very good and strong film - I hope there will be english subtitles at some point! Malin and I were also out walking in Västra Hamnen, Malmö and then we experienced these amazing sceneries:

The old train through Sweden

I can really recommend going with Veolia from Stockholm to Malmö, certain days you travel two for one and it doesnt make you travel-sick as the faster trains might do! The journey I made last Saturday was magical, travelling in the afternoon through the autumnal landscape and fog. It brought back memories from my Transiberian travels a few years ago, as me and mum sat in the cosy restaurant and chatted to the friendly employees.

Ideas for cover of EP

I have had certain ideas for an EP cover quite a while, and I have a name for the Ep which will also connect to the cover. Just giving a wee hint of it here.

Harvest Party in our village

This year, our village Gärdslösa is "the village of the year" on the island of Öland. During a weekend in late September we had lots of visitors to various activities along our village road. Amongst them was an exhibition with old aprons from the village and a closed-down shop opened their doors to show visitors what it was like when the island had lots of snall community shops, it was glorious!

The morning after the night before

This was the location of our evening installation "Camping i konstnatten". I had a great job trying to get passers-by to come down and see our photos and sounds. Many people seemed scared, and even said so "It looks dangerous!". Disa had someone shout at her from a car: "Bloody gypsies!"

Stockholm 18-25 September

During this week, I gave pianoclasses in Enskede, and in the Old City I saw this lovely shop.

3 songs for a cassette

I have used an old Portastudio and recorded the songs for the installation: "Camping i Konstnatten" http://campingikonstnatten.blogspot.com/
1. Fångad av en Stormvind - Carola
2. Kommer du ihåg mej? - Jimmi Jihed
3. Mitt bästa för dej - Grymlings

Working on music for an installation at the art-night on Öland 1st of October

I am making/re-making music that has to do with 1991 for an installation in two caravans in Gärdslösa during the Art-night here. The installation is part of an ongoing art-project by illustrator/artist Disa Holgersson and photographer/journalist Hanna Ellborg and deals with Öland as a tourist-paradise contra a place to grow up in. The three of us are all grown up in rural Öland.

Cat make-up

Lately I have been very interested in make up. Yesterday, me and my friend stumbled upon a free make-up in the posh department store NK in Stockholm. The first picture is of Maria checking it out, and then a nice man took our picture so the world can see the new Stockholm look. Sadly I had to remove it all last night.

The art of recording in a small space

Bedroom, studio, kitchen, lounge, dining space and a super producer: this little room has it all!

After the rain - a ferry to denmark

About a week ago, we paused our piano and flute playing in Mölle by taking a daytrip to Helsingör in Denmark. Here you can see me and Johanna outside the restaurant in the ferry. We didnt eat prawn-sandwiches as they do there, but opted for a cheaper and faster option: pasta in a pot. (the stress of eating in a restaurant when the ferrycrossing only takes 20minutes!) A lovely trip it was and we saw the castle of Hamlet and ate ice-cream, although i gave mine away to some big headed seagulls.

Go Bananas! Tom Tom club plus Video I found on youtube- footage from Carmen Miranda

Filming Day 2

Still windy, we drove to Kapelludden to film the last bits of the video today. Yesterday we had the company of cows and today we had some inquisitive horses wanting to be extras in our video! Johanna has just left to go back to Mölle, and I am going to Malmö tomorrow for a family gathering. I will also send the film off to Widescreen Centre in London and have to hurry up recording the song so that Johanna can start editing at the end of september!
